Computer sacks board
11.02.14: ALARM and amusement swept the City at the news that Adam Blomfield, director of the banking group ADF, had been sacked by his own management computer. And so had the rest of the board.
Much of the credit for ADF's success has been attributed to the A-Life Technologies computer that has been making its strategic decisions.
Ironically, ADF's first computer management system was programmed with fuzzy logic rules based on Blomfield's own business strategy.
'Our computers work on evolutionary principles,' said A-Life's Peter Small. 'They learn on the job and keep doing what works.'
The system had decided that since the board of directors generally referred important decisions to it anyway, they were no longer necessary. JB
